GITC focuses on running, walking and jogging. GITC actively promotes
exercise through a variety of ways. Weekly group runs/walks are held and are
open to both members and non-members alike. Members can take advantage of
organized "fun runs," take part in race participation and attend monthly
educational and business meetings. * Weekly Fun Runs are held every Thursday night (except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve) in the Pier/Village parking lot on St. Simons Island. Members meet in the parking lot in front of Brogen's Food & Spirits and begin the run promptly at 7:00 pm. Distances range from 2 to 5 1/2 miles and are of various paces. Walkers, joggers, runners and cyclists are all welcome. Participants gather at Brogen's after running for post-run refreshment, food and fellowship. *Club Fun Runs for members are held at various times throughout the year, especially in the summer. Notification of Fun Runs are via e-mail postings. *GITC Parties & Social Gatherings are also held throughout the year and notification for members is via e-mail postings. New Year's Eve, Super Bowl, St. Patrick's Day, Christmas Party and several beach parties are normally held annually. Members gather at the summer "music in the park" outdoor concert events and picnic. *Monthly GITC Business Meetings are held on the second Tuesday night of each month at 7:00 pm. Locations vary and are announced by e-mail postings. GITC Sponsors Three Races Annually in the Golden Isles and also offers assistance and volunteer power to countless other races in the Southeast. The Sidney Lanier Bridge Run in February and the Freedom 5K at the Brunswick Rockin' Stewbilee in October both benefit local charities with the beneficiaries changing each year for both races. The 4th of July Sunshine Festival 5K & 1-mile runs are a long-held tradition of the Golden Isles and are held on the 4th of July. GITC Participates in a Variety of Community Endeavors. We've participated in the commUNITY Art project of mural painting at the old Casino on St. Simons, volunteer our time to the Glynn County Special Olympics, participate in the local Down Syndrome Buddy Walk and volunteer at CoastFest. GITC also assists in buying track supplies for Glynn County high schools and donates to member efforts in Relay for Life. GITCers support local high school track programs by providing man power and finish line duties for state-wide cross country competitions held on Jekyll Island. To become a member of GITC simply download the membership form on our main page and mail it to PO Box 20651 St. Simons Island, GA 31522. First time members receive their first membership free (January-December of any given year). Thereafter annual membership fee is $12/single and $18/family.
